Classics at Kempton: Off-road & racing

AMONG THE MANY enjoyable aspects of owning, riding and fettling motorcycles, meandering around bike jumbles and shows gives the rider/restorer two opportunities: to secure parts or inspiration for future projects or the next purchase.

The Southern Classic Shows at Kempton Park combine both activities and allow visitors to stock up on useful bits and pieces and wander around the show hall containing some tremendous machines.

The two aspects of the day – show and jumble – mesh together well, but could equally and happily stand alone. At times throughout the day, the two events had a distinctly separate feel to them.

The December day dawned bright, clear and somewhat crisp, ensuring that the hot drink and snack vendors did a roaring trade, warming up the crowds attending the event. Those wanting to get a head start on the bargains had the option of an ‘early bird’ ticket which gives access to the showground from 7.45am, an opportunity that saw attendees getting the march on some stallholders.
