CBG Workshop: Good ideas are everywhere

by

I’ve been riding around on a brand new Royal Enfield 500 Bullet recently, loving the old feel with the back up that a new bike brings.

But, as we know, Enfields don’t change that often and that includes the sidestand. It’s only short, which means it feels like the bike is going to fall over, and for a small single, the Bullet isn’t that light.

So, wandering around the excellent Fenlander show over the August Bank Holiday, I saw this sidestand on a Honda, right.

Checking your bore: Need rings? A hone? Know what you’ve bought? Measure your bore correctly and you’ll know

The owner obviously had a similar problem to the Bullet and may have had a spare 3⁄8th drive extension, so it was welded on to the old sidestand and voila!

An extended stand. You need to be a confident welder to weld something to take the weight of your bike, especially if the extension was chromed – see what we learned about TIG welding on page 88.
